Metro: Charles-de-Gaulle-Étoile, GeorgeV, Champs-Elysées Clemenceau, Concorde

RER A : Charles-de-Gaulle-Étoile

The Champs-Élysées runs from the Arc de Triomphe to the Concorde. There are a wide variety of businesses along the way - airline offices, car showrooms, shopping arcades, movie theaters, cafes and of course the Lido cabaret. Every year the Tour de France bicycle race finishes here.

The stretch between the Rond-Point roundabout and Concorde is bordered by chestnut trees and flower beds. The two massive buildings rising above the greenery to the south are the Grand and Petit Palais - both are topped with impressive statuary. They house a number of museums and the Grand Palais is the address for major cultural exhibitions.

On the north side of near the Concorde, police guard the walls round the presidential Elysee palace and the line of ministries and embassies ending with the US in prime position on the corner of place de la Concorde.

A great walk is to start at the Arc and go all the way to the Louvre.

There's Jim. Doesn't he look happy to be at McDonalds?
This is the start of the Paris Marathon. I was lucky enough to see this on my 1st trip to Paris. To read my journal, click HERE.
This is what the street looked like after the start of the race. What a mess. Within 15 minutes it was cleaned up and traffic was back to normal. Nice job!

Every year the Tour de France ends on the Champs Elysees. To the left is a picture of the 2000 winner Lance Armstrong from the good ol' USA!
